What Are Cosmetic Treatments?
Over the years, our skin reacts to time and climatic elements, particularly the sun. Years of muscle actions like frowning, smiling, squinting and smoking cause us to develop frown and forehead lines, smile lines, smokers lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. As the skin loses its resilience, we may also develop lines in the lower face, particularly around the mouth, on the cheeks, and between the nose and corners of the mouth. There are non-surgical techniques available to decrease the prominence of facial lines and wrinkles. These techniques are so versatile they can even be used to achieve slight eyebrow lifts and improve the lateral angles of the lips. There are also fat dissolving treatments for the appearance of extra fat deposits under the chin. Due to government regulations we are unable to name the treatments used; however, we can explain the available options during the initial consultation to evaluate individual concerns and talk about treatment goals.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
Who Is a Candidate?
Anyone wanting to address facial wrinkles may be a candidate for cosmetic facial treatments. Some people have very few facial lines but still like to minimise the actions of frowning and squinting. By limiting these actions, they can also slow down the further development of these lines. Other people who have developed facial lines over the years can have them treated more intensely for an effect that has little to no movement.
The typical areas treated by cosmetic treatments include:
- Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Worry lines which run horizontally across the forehead
- Deep smile lines which run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth
- Smoker’s lines or lipstick bleed lines which run vertically around the mouth
- Marionette lines at the corners of the mouth
- Lip enhancement
In some people, facial lines or folds have developed over the years due to skin laxity. In these cases, facial plastic surgery options may be more appropriate than cosmetic treatments.
Cosmetic treatment therapy requires a consultation with our Doctor and Nurse Aesthetician. It is important to understand what our patient is wanting to treat and if it is a result which we can achieve. There are many options available, and we can help determine which may be the most ideal for a patient’s individual needs and goals.
